Minimum Wage.

Here's something I did in high school.

We had to do music videos, in a class, and I wanted to do a TMBG song, but very few of their songs, if any, met whatever the time requirement for the project was, so I was then allowed to do multiple songs adding up to the amount of time we needed. I ended up doing this and pieces of Fingertips.

It was shot on a really big SVHS camera, intended to be shoulder mounted but rarely actually done so, judging by the horrible quality of the raw footage. I believe the main devices for holding the camera were the roof of my car (exclusive) and Michael Wyban.

The original idea was for the second half of the project to feature big companies, showing that it's not just the little shops that pay badly, but also big banks and stuff, regardless of whether that's true, but the song was just too short.

Originally edited on a Draco Casablanca, it has been redone on Adobe Premiere, which does not have quite the same horrible transitions. I know the original featured a ripple dissolve in there somewhere. I hope the star wipe makes up for its absence.

Also, I'm sure the crazy car and Bill's Shoes, no matter how much I liked them, didn't actually make it into the original edit. I don't know quite what I did differently, but some pieces, including the ending, are definitely the same.

"Surely," I tell myself, "I must have improved since then. My videos must be of finer ilk."
"Of course you have," I respond to me. "This old stuff is just here for the benefit of old friends who want to see 'em again."
Reassured, I turn to leave, when I stop me with a hand on my shoulder. I look back at me expectantly, anxious about what further criticism I might have in store for myself.
"Don't call me 'Shirley.'"
